Sidhwan Khurd, a small village in Ludhiana district situated at a distance of 30 kilometers from Ludhiana onLudhiana – Ferozepur Road, is widely acclaimed as a Centre of Women Education in rural India. The SidhwanGroup of Institutions, located in Sidhwan Khurd village near Ludhiana, Punjab, has a rich history rooted in theearly 20th century. In 1909, Bhai Narain Singh, a farmer from Sidhwan Khurd, initiated the education of girls byteaching four students under a mulberry tree in his courtyard. This was a pioneering effort in a time wheneducating girls was not customary in undivided Punjab.
